Respect, Responsibility, Resilience

Introduction to Year...Welcome to Year 2.

Year 2 are a class of 30 enthusiastic and creative children who love to learn. The children will tell you they work hard but equally they have lots of fun too. This year will be yet another year full of exciting learning, challenges and opportunities for the children to develop not only their knowledge and independence but their ability to work and learn together. Reading is always at the heart of our curriculum and we encourage the children to read as much as they can both at home and at school. In Year 2 we base our English lessons on either a fiction or non-fiction test. Developing a love of books is incredibly important in Year 2 and the children are always very excied to discover what book we will be sharing next!

We follow the White Rose Scheme of work in Maths. This scheme ensures that we can provide the children with the knowledge and skills they need in order to become resilient mathematicians, independent and reflective thinkers. Within their lessons the children have access to concrete resources to further build their understanding of number. It also provides them with the opportunity to solve fluency, reasoning and problem solving questions.

In the classroom the children are happy, kind and thoughtful and they make it a lovely place to be.

Learning at Home:

Any support that can be provided at home will be greatly appreciated. Throughout the year, home learning will take the form of such things as reading, practising spellings and learning times tables. Please remember to sign your child's reading record which will inform us that they are reading at home.
